About Susan Moore

I live in Roswell, NM, where the Chihuahuan Desert intersects the Great Plains. We are starting our 3rd year of straw bale gardening and have been very successful at most of our crops – just ask our friends and co-workers who start dodging us when our bounty is overflowing. We plant in 40 bales scattered around our front, back, and side yards. I love working out in the front yard and watching the people who slow down as they drive by, curious about what on earth we are doing with those bales in the front yard.

We started SB gardening after we moved into our home here and saw the yard. While the house (originally built in 1955) had been fixed up, the yard looked like a construction zone. We talked about raised beds, but the cost involved was preventative. One day I was on Facebook and an ad for SB gardening came up on the side. I clicked it, and the rest if history.

Our biggest crops last year were summer squash and tomatoes. However, we canned so many jars of squash pickles last year that we won’t be planting nearly as many this year. Our favorites are probably the beets, chile peppers and tomatoes.
