Donovan and Ginger Foster

My name is Donovan Foster with my wife Ginger. Last year 2016 Ginger was looking at raised bed gardening as she has 2 new knees. She found you tube videos of straw bale gardening and growing potatoes in a barrel. So we experimented on a small scale with about 6 bales. We grew a couple of kinds of tomatoes, cucumbers, bell and jalapeno peppers.

Kale, lettuce, carrots, radishes. Our tomato plants were the biggest I had ever grown. We had cucumbers all summer. We kept looking and studying and came across Straw Bale Gardening. We are studying Joel Karsten’s book and attend his webinars.

This year we have four rows of 5 bales each and 2 barrels of potatoes.

I have attached a couple of pictures. We are just finishing the conditioning of the bales and will plant later this week. 4-5-2017
