I have been Straw Bale Gardening over 4 years now and love it! I was raised doing traditional gardening and as I loved growing something and going thru the whole process of nursing and taking care of the plant from baby all the way thru harvest, then canning, and then fall clean up, I always thought there had to be an easier more efficient way to be more self sufficient. And there was! My husband got me my first SBG book and I was scepticle at first however, I knew it made sense. My first year I tried only 2 bales because I just wasn’t sure BUT, by month 2 into the process I was sold! This new way of gardening was legit and was so revolutionary for this country girl raised in gardens with 1/2 acre long rows that needed hoeing. Before the end of the summer I was planning my garden for the next year (in which I had 21 bales!) and now I’m going on 5 years and haven’t looked back!
The reason for becoming an instructor is to share this amazing, easy, efficient, and rewarding method of gardening. I’m so excited for the opportunity to see others who are long time gardeners try this new form of gardening but also to hopefully bring with me on this journey those who maybe have been afraid of or intimidated by either the thoughts of gardening or put off by past failures. I would LOVE to see a great movement of new gardeners in the United States. With so much of our population living in urban settings these days, what better method of gardening than a method that allows you literally to grow a garden ANYWHERE!
