A few years ago I started to garden and grow my own vegetables. It took me a lot of reading and try-outs to learn what I know now. Being an autodidact I learned about the book of Joel Karsten, who wrote about Straw Bale Gardens. It was new to me at that moment..
The weather in Holland is not always perfect to grow vegetables in the organic way. We have the sea climate and this can bring a lot of rain and not so much high temperatures. Also the season can be very short. Because of the rain, the soil gets wet and the plants die before giving any vegetables. This happened to me a few times..
This made me decide to start a straw bale garden, to be precise, I started with 60 bales.. The profits of this manner of gardening are major!
I was flabbergasted with the way everything did grow, till far in autumn I had crops. The season can start earlier because of the higher temperature in the bales.. so all by all.. I am addicted to this way of gardening..
Spring is soon starting in Holland so I look forward to start my new season, During this season I post a lot of pictures etc. on my FB group – Co`Cootjes Moestuin op strobalen – You are welcome to follow my Straw Bale Garden season this year 😉
With kind regards,
Marjon
