I am a librarian/webmaster at a small library in Northwest Ohio. I discovered the “Straw Bale Gardens” book one day when it came across my desk at work and, of course, I had to “check it out”. I was instantly intrigued, and even though it was early August 2015, had to give it a try right away with just two bales and some leftover seeds. I was hooked. This year, I expanded the garden to seven bales and used the two “trial bales” from the year before to plant potatoes. Despite constant 90 degree temps, a drought, and an onslaught of cabbage caterpillars, the garden did well and I’ll definitely do this again in the future.
